LAWRENCE PICLawrence Thackery

At the tender age of 22 Lawrence is the baby of the It’s D’Lovely cast and he is delighted to be making his professional debut in this wonderful show.

Lawrence’s theatrical career began at the age of 5 when he played Dolore in Madame Butterfly at the Royal Northern College of Music – whether he volunteered to play this part or if his mother (and colleague of the opera’s director) had pushed him into the part is still up for debate! Either way, Lawrence is thrilled to have graced the stage at such a young age – even if he did have to have his hair in a perm and dyed blonde!

Lawrence first discovered his love for Musical Theatre at high school where he played the lead roles in The Threepenny Opera, Calamity Jane, Tin Pan Alley and Fagin in Oliver! However, musicals were not his main passion at high school, he would much rather spend his time practising with newly formed rock band Rhythmic Coughing. Over the next 5 years the band became an increasingly busy and important part of Lawrence’s life and by the time Rhythmic Coughing had to part ways in 2007 (aged 19) they had played nearly 300 gigs around the UK, including several nationwide tours in their yellow mini-bus and had ample recording, radio and performance experience.

During the last year of Rhythmic Coughing Lawrence had started a degree in Performing Arts at the University of Salford where he graduated in 2008 with 1st class honours degree. During his time in Salford his acting skills developed greatly as he performed in a variety of plays including Yerma, Alice in Wonderland, Shakespeare in Performance and Oh Dad Poor Dad...

After Salford Lawrence was offered a place on the illustrious Musical Theatre course at the Royal Academy of Music which he completed in July of this year. Lawrence regards his year at RAM to be the most enlightening, wonderful and toughest year of his life and is extremely grateful to the BBC Performing Arts Fund for awarding him a bursary towards his tuition fees. Roles whilst at RAM include Herman in Sweet Charity, Old Shepherd in The Winter’s Tale and Sidney in The California Suite.

Whilst at the academy Lawrence also performed externally at the National Theatre with Capital Voices Choir, as a male soloist for The Yorke Trust’s Valentine’s Day Music and Dining Club, and as an entertainer for the Music in Hospitals programme which he considers to be his most satisfying performance experience.

Away from the stage, Lawrence is an avid sports enthusiast and would like to thank his D’Lovely colleagues for putting up with his obsession with the England cricket team during the Ashes and his beloved Stockport County football club!

Lawrence would like to thank Mad About Productions, BBC Perfoming Arts Fund and all his friends and family for their love and support, especially his Mum, Dad, Kathryn and dog Patra.
